Kevin F. Toomey, D.M.D.
Dr. Kevin Toomey founded the Wellfleet Dental Group in 2011 and spearheaded the merge with Outer Cape Dental Center to create the Outer Cape Dental Group. He was raised in Lexington, Massachusetts and was a Magna Cum Laude graduate from both the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1977 and Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 1980. He also received the Academy of General Dentistry Award that recognized the senior student most knowledgeable and proficient in general dentistry. In 1986, he completed a post-doctoral prosthodontic specialty residency at the Naval Dental School in Bethesda, Maryland.
Upon graduation from Tufts in 1980 and his subsequent commission as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Dental Corps, Dr. Toomey embarked on a diverse ten year career as a Dental Officerbefore entering private practice in 1989. His duty stations included the Naval Training Center in San Diego, the U.S.S. Cape Cod (AD-43) home ported in San Diego , the prosthodontic residency at the Naval Dental School in Bethesda, the Naval Dental Clinic in Okinawa, Japan, and finally as a Reserve Dental Officer at the Naval Air Station in South Weymouth. Lieutenant Commander Toomey left active duty and joined the private practice of the late Dr. Melvin Gulbrandsen in Wellesley, Massachusetts.
Dr. Toomey is very active in the dental community. He has served as the General Chairman for the Yankee Dental Congress in 2009 (recently the 3rd largest dental convention in the country) and continues to serve on many committees for the Massachusetts Dental Society and the Yankee Dental Congress. He is an honorary Fellow in the International College of Dentists, and is Board eligible for the American Board of Prosthodontics. He participates in many dental organizations including the American College of Prosthodontists, the American Dental Association, the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, the New England Dental Society, the Cape Cod District Dental Society, and the Omicron Kappa Upsilon national dental honor society. Dr. Toomey was also a Clinical Instructor of Undergraduate Prosthodontics at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine.
In addition to his busy professional life, Dr. Toomey has been very active in the Wellesley and Wellfleet communities. He has served on the Boards of Wellesley Little League and the Wellesley Community Center, and was a founder and past President of Wellesley Girls Softball. He has coached youth softball, soccer, basketball, and high school hockey. He has ridden in the Pan Massachusetts Challenge cycling event that supports the Dana Farber Cancer Institute since 1999 and is a member of Team Beachcomber.
Dr. Toomey and his wife Karen, a middle school technology specialist, have three grown daughters, Kristin, Lindsey, and Ashley. He enjoys cycling, everything Wellfleet, and all activities with his family and friends.
Dr. Toomey is a Member of the American College of Prosthodontists.
